Government Requirements - India - Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Quality Control Orders (QCO)

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has recently published the Quality Control Orders (“QCO”) as listed on the Government of India portal or as listed on Cummins’ Supplier Portal, by means of which the list of products manufactured in India or imported to India must meet the requirements mentioned in the QCO and the relevant Indian standard. Since Cummins in India is importing/procuring these products from you, it is mandatory to follow and meet the requirements of QCO. This applies to your Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers for the specified QCO, as well as if you are importing related raw materials. In all these scenarios, you are required to abide by the BIS certification requirements. 

Please note that it is very important to submit the relevant application promptly and get the final license from the BIS before the declared implementation date. Any failure to comply with BIS requirements may amount to non-compliance with applicable laws of the land and may amount to fines and/or penalties, etc., along with disruptions in the supply chain. Additionally, you shall keep Cummins protected from any losses, damages, fines, penalties, costs, etc. caused due to your failure to comply with this statutory requirement.
